In general, we will be covering the overall understanding of green wood, with a significant focus on moisture content and correctly dealing with the many stresses within raw wood. These stresses, left unchecked, can be the source of cracking and frustrations. We will explore how to find, locate, cut bowl blanks, properly store and dry them to reduce and prevent cracks.
We will be taking much guesswork and many myths out of the entire green wood process in this course.
Anyone with the desire to learn how to take a piece of natural, raw timber and move it along the process to become a turned bowl will benefit significantly from this course.
The ability or desire to turn wood on a lathe is necessary but is not the focus of this course. We will mainly deal with the handling and preparation of raw timber up to the turning point.
Some physical work will be required, but, as you will see, even small manageable branches can yield unique turnings.
If you’d like to simply process a single log well or learn how to manage an entire tree with minimal waste, this course is for you.
